It has been a very busy week on the field of dreams project and the leadership team has been pushed to the max. Particularly project manager Jim Hartley has taken many hours away from his salary paying job to keep FOD going. Removing the concrete debris from the track project took much longer and many more bins than we first thought. The worst part was that it was not part of the original budget. Thankfully the track boosters have offered to make a contribution to cover this cost. A couple of setbacks occured when the newly placed storm drain pipe got damaged and a backflow valve got bumped. Steve Wheeler has come out during the week to operate the trencher so the volunteers can place the irrigation pipe.

Last weekends report-

The last week of the Field of Dreams project has had some dramatic
activity. JRS construction has trenched and placed our storm drain
system. The size of the concrete inlets is very impressive as you see
them lifted into the air and placed. Last Thursday and Friday was very
dusty as the heavy equipment traversed the fields and kicked up dust
into 30 mph winds. There is an access point to a large county sewer line
that requires an extension place to compensate for the raised elevation
of the field hockey field. This work should be finished on Monday and
our volunteer corps will have full access to complete the project in
time for our scheduled planting of turf.

Saturday was Field Hockey volunteer day and we had a good turnout from
the team. Karl Uhrenholt drove the water tank on a continuous mission to
suppress the dust during the work period. Our most critical path item is
the trenching for the irrigation system. We have a top-of-the-line
trencher provided to us by Doc Pond, a softball parent. Andrew Thompson, Bob Shiner and Jim Elledge provided yeoman duty on the trencher. On Sunday Scott Bruns and the Cheer group did a fantastic job painting the new trench lines to guide the trencher operators. This is another critical item since the trenchers must follow the plan very exactly. Mike White has done so much
to move us forward in the “taking care of problems” department. Using a
skip loader donated by Joe and Gayle Hensler and their team at TEAM POWER, Mike loaded the remaining concrete debris into bins for removal. The bins have been provided at a discount through Mike Strombeck. I think that by now you can understand
how so many people have worked to make this all come together.

Toni Fairall and her crew swept the football practice field clean of debris.
We have hired Bert Wickey to grade the football practice area, smooth out the

main access road, and refine many of the field edges. He has already corrected some of the corner heights for the required playing areas. Bert is a master with his tractor with over 40 years of experience. Royce Worden and his crew of able students connected the final stage of the water line for the two future drinking fountains. Les Will is our consumate utility volunteer from sprinklers to hose spraying to digging to sawing 6-inch PVC andassembling leak-free connections. Les was everywhere on the field getting the pieces put

together. We have hired Gary Vollstedt to teach and supervise our crew of

volunteers how to assemble this massive and complex irrigation system. This is not your families’ front lawn project: 4-inch mains, 10-lb brass valves. Gary has a great temperament for this work and over 35 years of experience in the business, so come out this weekend as we work hard to complete our sprinkler system installation!
