As you have noticed, the seeding and sodding got pushed back a week. This turns out to be fortunate, because it gives us time to catch up with our own final preparations before it’s too late. We now have two, maybe three days, to:
By Monday night:
- fix at least one of the two leaks in the main sprinkler lines (join Laurie Shusted & Mike White Monday aft. to help!)
- fill the open trench in the SW corner of Soccer, and the conduit trench near the hill corner
- set all valve covers at the right elevation (an inch or more above surrounding grade)
- pick up sticks and big rocks in Football Practice and Soccer, especially (thanks Andi - your PE class is great!)
- groom the edges of Soccer and Field Hockey/Lacrosse with the landscaping rakes, or live with it for a long time
- lime the fields for sod (join Jim Hartley around 4:30 or 5:00pm if you’d like to help)
By Tuesday night (if not before):
- rewire the Soccer/FH/L sprinkler control box to 12 stations from 13
- program all sprinklers to the desired automatic settings for pre-sod/seed moistening
- verify that ALL sprinkler heads cover the right area; make final flow and control adjustments
- fix the second main line leak (Field Hockey/Lacrosse - Soccer swale)
- replace the electrical conduit vault (broken during blading - also needs a 6-in boost to be at the right height) (MIKE?)
By Wednesday night:
- anything of the above that didn’t get finished
- anything else that crops up (and something tells me it will)
- fence post pulling on the west, and reinstalling on the east (Gum Ranch) side
- program Soccer and FH/L for sod settings, FP and BP to seed settings
Yes, it’s the week. But, YES, this IS the week that the fields finally get finished! So, if you can spare any time, especially in the afternoons early in the week, come on by. Many of us will be there, and many hands will make shorter work for all.
In the meantime, let me thank Andi Wright, Christie Wheeler and their volunteer crew (led by Diana Elliott and Professor Webster) for checking out the sprinklers on Saturday, and to Mike, Diana, Les, Laurie, Larry, Bill (and son!) and Tom for their hard work Sunday.
It’s not over till the hoarse Believer sings - which I am sure hoping I’ll be able to Saturday evening!
Jim Hartley
