Our effort last summer and fall was nothing short of heroic - and all of you should take credit for your efforts. Now it’s time to think how to take our fields to the next level with real athletic facilities: goals, sidelines, seating, fences, backstops and healthy turf.
Our first 2007 work day for the overall fields will be Saturday March 3rd, 8:30am - 2:00pm. We will need volunteers with wheelbarrows, shovels and landscape rakes - and don’t forget your gloves - to:
- repair erosion gullies and settlement areas
- transfer topsoil and seed to bare patches
- re-set the elevation on sprinkler heads to match the playing surface
- spread out and groom our DG walkway
- install a stacker block wall (if our latest donations come in)
- remove some and re-set some other temporary fencing
During this time Soccer, Lacrosse/Field Hockey, Softball and Baseball are all organizing their own team/field efforts, and if we have extra hands on March 3rd, we will want to help them. They are planning other efforts even earlier - if you’d like to learn more, contact:
Softball: Bob Churchill @ rachurch@comcast.net
Baseball: Coach Bill Richardson @ passion4bb@comcast.net
Soccer: Coach Christie Wheeler @ cwheeler@sanjuan.edu
Lacrosse: Bob Shiner @ REShiner@aol.com
Field Hockey: Diana Elliott @ Bidielliott@aol.com
Any general questions, or just to let us know you’ll be there on March 3:
Thanks!
Jim Hartley

email Jim Hartley at jhartley57@sbcglobal.net or check “Update” at www.bvfieldofdreams.org. In the meantime… the softball team is looking for help to build their first field on campus - Varsity Softball. If there is a parent that would like to help, they could use assistance with mixing and pouring concrete (incidental - as needed for fence posts, minor slabs, etc). If there is anyone who can help with this, they should contact Soccer is planning days to relocate their fences to make ready their new field - contact Christie Wheeler for info @ cwheeler@sanjuan.edu.
