There are several places where the new fields could use new trees. Once planted, in five years new trees could:
1) Define the boundary of Band Practice
2) Provide shade and a sunscreen for afternoon lacrosse and field hockey
3) Complete the boundary around Soccer, before the new homes go in
The Sacramento Tree Foundation is a generous source of trees, but it takes volunteers to plant and maintain them. At least one volunteer needs to receive training before the trees will be given out.
The next training is:
Seedster Volunteer Training
Monday June 23rd
6pm to 8pm
Coloma Community Center- Gold Run Room
This two-hour training is an introduction to the urban forest of Sacramento. Participants will learn how to properly plant trees, the benefits of trees, and opportunities to get involved. Interesting information about Sacramento’s common tree species is also provided. This in-class portion is coupled with two to three field experiences during the planting season.
To become involved in planning for new trees in our fields, take a look at http://www.sactree.com/doc.aspx?100. This page describes the process and resources we have - just for asking. If you’re interested in becoming involved, let Jim Hartley know at jhartley07@gmail.com.
