Our turf needs to be at the right moisture to grow, to stay green, and to stand up to heavy use. In our area, this means one amount of water in February or March, and as much as four times as much in July.
The schedule below presents the irrigation start times and station duration for the Stadium, Soccer, FH-LAX, DiSoFo and Band Practice fields. Soccer and FH-LAX are linked together, as they share a 12-station controller box; the other three fields also have 12 stations, so are scheduled together. Each group is turned on at least once every night, and twice during the night in the warmer months.
If you have a sporting event coming up, and want the field to dry out a little beforehand, please send an e-mail to jhartley07@gmail.com to have your field turned off for that event. Include the day and time of the event, and the earliest the spinklers could come back on.
These settings are based on the Evapotranspiration rates for our area; some adjustments were made for each field according to whether it is in a growing, maintenance, or competition mode. Based on these levels, the fields, on average, should all have about the right amount of water.
Of course, the weather can be hotter or windier, the nights could be cooler, or it could even rain! All these variables could require some one-time adjustments for the program. Likewise, local spots could be too wet, or too dry - if you see this condition, send me an email (jhartley07@gmail.com). In most cases an adjustment will work; in some there might need to be a work party to build a better drainage or coverage.
