Saturday morning, July 26. Clear summer day. Good day for sleeping in, taking it easy, decompressing from the week. But not for Football.

Almost 20 football players, dads, moms and coaches showed up 8:30am with tools and weedwhackers at the Stadium.  They pulled over 100 pig weeds from the playing surface; they trimmed the entire perimeter of the field, against the track curb. They filled gaps in the turf with sod.

The weedwhackers and a volunteer lawn mower then went to work on the grounds: the Shotput pit was nubbed, as was the north area, as was the entrance to the stadium, and as was the walkway to and the area around the Visitor bleachers. And they didn’t stop there: even the ground around the Discus cage was shaved. Together with the field trimmings, almost 2 cubic yards of weedwhacked weeds and dead grass were hauled to the compost heap.

The field now looks like a team wants to play on it. The stadium looks like a school is proud of it. And Football, with their effort this morning, deserves our congratulations for continuing the tradition of taking care of their field, before and after the season, to keep it in top shape for the whole school year.
