The tennis team currently practices and plays off campus, at Rollingwood Racquet Club. But, if some tennis supporters have their way, by next Fall…
…new courts - good courts - will be on the BVHS campus.
It’s not a small task, but with the help of Greg Stedfield (Civil Engineer and Parent Volunteer), Karla Allen (Tennis Coach), Scott Allen (Sports Booster) and others, site development plans are being pulled together this month. Next month, serious conversations will begin with the San Juan Unified School District and the Fair Oaks Parks and Recreation District, who have both indicated their support and interest in participating in this project. Later this year look on this website for plans, fundraising opportunities, project schedules and ways you can help. In the Spring we anticipate going in front of the School District Board, and will send out a call for all who can to come and applaud when that authority gives us the final approval to go ahead in the summer.
Given the level of support and energy at today’s 1st Annual BV Doggie Walk (a promising Tennis fundraiser), it’s clear that there is a lot of support to be mobilized among athletes, parents, and friends of BV Tennis and Athletics. With everyone’s help, we will see the new Tennis Courts get built.
Finally giving the Tennis Team a competitive-level court complex is a continuation of the parent- and team-driven energy that built the All-Weather Track & Snack Bar Complex in 2001; the Soccer/Field Hockey-LAX/Discus/Band fields in 2006; and the JV Baseball and Softball fields in 2007 and 2008 (other posts on this site have more information - look under Archives). Completing the new Tennis Courts will also clear the space for the final major Field of Dreams project: a new 25m swimming pool (scheduled for future years).
If you’d like to learn more about the plans for the Tennis Courts, send Scott Allen an email at scottdivot6@yahoo.com. We’d love to have you be part of this!
