At least four hours of work ahead of us early on Sunday (Nov 15), but somehow…many people came and got to work, and we left in just over two hours, finishing not only what we had planned, but a third of next Sunday’s (Nov 22) tasks as well.
2 Band students and 10 Band parents; 8 Soccer parents; and some stragglers from Aquatics, Tennis and Lacrosse all pitched in and gave the Band Practice, FH/LAX, and Soccer field a much-needed pre-winter/post-autumn rescue treatment. Almost a quarter mile of protective fencing was strung to shield the barren areas, now planted with seed, winterizing fertilizer, and topdressing, and to let them grow in the occasional warm days that we expect between now and February.
It was an amazing sight: teams distributing nearly 100 bags of seed, fertilizer and top dressing exactly where needed; mechanized aeration and spreading happening ahead of schedule; 125 fence posts banged into place by three parallel teams; and top dressing spread by hand to cover the seeds in the barren areas. The well coordinated teamwork paid off - hardly anyone had to work more than 2 hours, and more than we thought we could do got done.
All that is left for Sunday, Nov 22nd, is the Stadium field. We will start at 8am - come early if you want to help flag the field; come at 9am if you’d like to lend a much-needed hand (and rake) spreading the topdressing - it will take less than an hour, if enough volunteer. If you come right at 8am, you can help the barrier post pounder crews set up an innovative way to keep the field safe from unauthorized use while it recovers.
The Football team, especially, has been asked to step up to this task; but as we learned on the 15th, if folks from all sports pitch in, there’s less work for all.
